Theis/Nyegaard Jazzband has been an institution on the danish jazz-scene since 1963. In January 1990 Peter Nyegaard died at the age of 52, and Theis Jensen took over and fronted the band alone - without changing the name of the band. However in August 1998, clarinetplayer Erik »Krølle« Andersen, who had been playing with Theis Jensen for more than 42 years, decided to leave the band, in order to make a career as a full-time professional jazzmusician. This made Theis realize, that it was time to regain his own identity, and he renamed the band THEIS' JAZZBAND. In the summer 2007 Hans Nymand, drummer since 1974 dies at the age of 70.The members of THEIS' JAZZBAND are now: Theis Jensen (leader/trumpet/vocal), Erik Hansen (trombone since 1990), Leif Juul Jørgensen (clarinet since 1998), Hans Aspöck (piano since 1981), Henrik Hartmann (bass since 1977), and Mikkel Find (drums since 2007). |
